While a brutal cold streak has been borderline unbearable for residents of the Northeast, it has also created some breathtaking scenes. This week, with temperatures dropping to 13 degrees below zero, the famous Niagara Falls were partially frozen, producing some incredible images and giving brave would-be tourists an incentive to layer up and head to the site.
Luckily, you don't have to dig out your parka to take in the glory of winter's impact on the popular attraction. Have a look at a handful of some of the most spectacular photos of the frozen falls from the warmth of your home or office.
You can almost hear the rushing water slowing and then coming to a halt as it succumbs to the frigid temperatures.

Amazingly, much of the falls didn't freeze. But perhaps a few more weeks of sub-zero temps could change that.
It's hard to believe there will barely be a trace of snow in mere months.

If not for some water still flowing and telltale signs of civilization to the left, we could understand thinking this shot was of the polar ice caps.
